Today (September 24), a 175,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas carrier, independently designed and built by Dalian Shipbuilding under China State Shipbuilding Corporation, was officially delivered to China Merchants Energy Shipping, adding another Chinese achievement in the field of high-value shipbuilding.
The 175,000 cubic meter LNG carrier delivered today is 295 meters long, and a single full load of liquefied natural gas can meet Dalian's residential and industrial gas demand for one and a half months. This ship can dock at most major LNG terminals around the world and will be used for transporting liquefied natural gas to ports globally in the future.
Because of the extremely high difficulty in design and construction, LNG carriers are known as the 'crown jewel of the shipbuilding industry,' and only a few shipyards worldwide have the core capability to build them.
Ruan Hang, project manager at China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Dalian Shipyard, said that Dalian Shipyard currently has 17 LNG carrier orders on hand. This has created a leading capacity advantage in the industry for taking and building orders in batches. More importantly, it has greatly strengthened China's voice and autonomy in the global energy transportation system.
